Our Church Life
Membership is normally by Believer’s Baptism by immersion, on repentance towards God and faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. However, people may join on profession of faith without baptism on the grounds of health or age and also by transfer from other churches.
Members are expected to show commitment to the church community on joining the church.
- By sharing in worship services and celebrating communion.
- By regular bible study and prayer, either personally or within a group.
- By giving of time, abilities and financial support (where one can), to the church.
The whole of the finances of the church are met from the personal giving of its members and others in the congregation. Our gifts are used to support the ministry of the church, to pay the ministers and other staff, to ensure that our premises and other equipment are suitable for a variety of purposes and are well maintained and to support Christian mission in the local area, nationally through Baptist Home Mission and internationally through the Baptist Missionary Society.
In Baptist churches it is the members who together share responsibility for the life of the church under God. The church members’ meeting seeks God’s purpose for the church and is one of the most important parts of our life together. It is at this meeting that the appointment of ministers, deacons and other leaders is made and membership applications are approved. We concentrate on plans for the future and hear reports from our members and organisations. Meetings are usually held every other month on the third Wednesday evening at 7.30 pm.
Pastoral Care Groups
Our members live all over the city and are from many different backgrounds and walks of life. We have divided Nottingham into different areas and ensure that everyone is part of a group. Groups are encouraged to enable people to make friends and find encouragement and support. Some groups meet more regularly than others and enjoy bible study and prayer time together.
Musicians and singers play an important role during our morning service. They meet before the service to practice and also on the first Monday of the month at 7.30 pm. for fellowship and practice. Newcomers assured of a warm welcome.
Use both telephone and email to convey immediate needs for prayer. Confidentiality is guaranteed.
A variety of Christian books are available for borrowing. Donations of books always welcome.
